mail 'received' disappears immediately!!

I am running MS Office Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Pro,
and just did a complete reinstall of the operating system
thanks to Sasser and their buddies (McAfee piece-of-#$%^
failed).

Outlook is exhibiting this bizarre behavior. When I click
on Send/Recieve, it will send a test, but as soon as it
receives the test mail and all other incoming mail, it
immediately removes everything from the Inbox, never to
be seen again! I lost a ton of mail before I realized the
default setup doesn't instruct the program to leave the
mail on the server, so for now I have a workaround, and
apparently I can send without any problems.

Any clues?

I am no expert, however, I also had a simular problem
where one of two computers was causing e-mail to disappear
from the other. This user had two computers setup using
the same e-mail. One computer using Outlook 2002 was setup
at a remote site using POP3 to recieve her e-mail. The
other computer also Outlook 2002 was setup at the main
office using an Exchange server. On the computer using
POP3, the settings in the advance options would not keep.
I would check the box asking to leave a copy of the
message on the server. However, when I closed Outlook, the
setting would not stay. I installed all Window OFFICE
UPDATES and the Advance Setting worked and both computers
recieved e-mail without dissapearing. Best of luck.

Thanks Nathan. After reading your post I went into
Outlook Tools and lo and behold, it had not "held" my
instructions to retain mail on the server, so thanks for
the heads up on that. I solved the problem... and, as
usual, it was user stupidity. McAfee Spamkiller was
counting everything as spam. I suppose if I read things
closer, I would have seen that somewhere because it makes
sense. I was able to retrieve everything so... one
problem solved... now on to the next one.
