Mail stuck in outbox--a solution

I used to have this problem with Outlook 2002 in Windows XP Pro. When I saw
a web page I liked, I wanted to send it to someone. Instead of being sent
right away, it went and sat in my outbox. I had to open Outlook and click
"Send/Receive" to get it going.

I tried EVERY solution suggested in the knowledge base and in these
forums--checking/unchecking boxes for when to send, deleting/recreating .pst
and .ost files, repair tool in Outlook, etc. I systematically went through
a knowledge base list of about 10 diagnostic procedures. I mean I tried
EVERYTHING!

Finally, here's what worked. I uninstalled Office XP. Then I got my XP
disk out and installed Outlook EXPRESS. Then I re-installed Office XP, but
chose "custom installation" and installed everything EXCEPT Outlook.
(Basically I now have Office with an Outlook Express, but not Outlook). I
downloaded all the service packs, security fixes, etc. and now everything
works GREAT! If you don't need the Outlook extras like the calendar, tasks,
etc. and all you want to do is have your mail work right, DUMP OUTLOOK in
favor of Outlook Express!

I'm amazed that a serious problem like having your mail not go out
automatically in Outlook has gone on for so long without a real solution (as
far as I know) by Microsoft. The problem, based on my experience, seems
obviously based in Outlook itself. I don't understand why people have to
wait months for a patch to fix something so fundamental in this program.
