Hi,

Mail views and searches via "Find" and "Advanced Search" always show no results. What could be wrong here?

I tried rebuilding the db and that didn't work. These searches worked a long time ago and since then the only things that may have changed or are nonstandard:
- I had Entourage 2004 before and I think it worked then.
- my install location is: /Applications/__MAIL/Microsoft Office 2008/Microsoft Entourage
- the windows versions of Outlook got upgraded to 2009; don't know if this changed something on the exchange server.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I have the same problem. They have changed the way it works to an
inferior set of control pannels, and then it doesn't even do that
properly! The only ones that work are the ones that were imported
from 2004! The icons of new ones are coloured slightly
differently...I suspect given the way it behaves that they are not
beig saved properly.

Why did they trash this, it was OK before!

Diane, Peter,
The spotlight index plugin didn't fix my issues either. Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks - Matt

1) Did you c heck to see if there are any files have been created at this
directory:
~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage

2) Is the Entourage Database Daemon (Office Reminders/Notifications) turned
on?

3) Do you have Mail Messages. Contacts, Events & To Do Items selected in
Spotlight System Preferences?

4) Is "Include Entourage item in search results" checked in the Entourage
Preferences: General Preferences

5) Did you delete the current cache files and let Entourage reindex?

6) Did you test in a new Identity?

This means that all of 2008 will have been removed from my
computer...what at disaster 2008 has turned out to be.

Not for everyone. It's your choice to give up without trying to find out
what happened and miss out on one of Entourage 2008's best features.

Dear Diane,

to answer the questions in order:

yes. Caches are present at at ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/
Entourage

demon turned on

yep.

yep.

yep.

No - whenever I tied to use different identities in the past it gives
me permission errors.

Yet the problem remains. It seems a common one.

The solution I have used it to use entourage 2004, create many "spare"
mail views - labelled z1, z2, etc so they are stored at the bottom of
the list, then get entourage 2008 to create a new identity and import
from 2004.

Very crude, but it works, a sthe mail views can be used in 2008, just
rename them and edit the search terms.

What I don't understand is not only can you not create new searched
(that work!) in 2008, they have even changed the way of doing the -
the control panel used etc.

Many thanks,

Peter
