mailmerge date formatting

I want to display an Excel date in a word mail merge document in the format
'dd mon yy'. All I seem to be able to get is a number. What can I do to get
the date in the correct format?

The answer fixes that problem, but I am now finding that the date format is
being changed by word! - I have the dates in the UK format (dd/mm/yy), bur if
the day is less than 13, i get the date displayed as mm/dd/yy!

It's driving me mad!!!!

Finally sorted it! - if I set the date format in Excel to dd MMMM yy trhen it
can't get it wrong!
Usual story - if you give software any chance to make decisions for you it
will get it completely wrong!
