Mailmerge from scanned material?

My boss has given me 80 8 X 11 sheets of addresses, some with varying
name formats.
Can these be scanned into a word file and with minimum massaging be
used in a
merge? I am guessing that about 20% of the sheets are going to need
some sort of
work done on them to create a more standard format. I have only done
simple merges and my boss thinks in invented mailmerges. Need some
help here. Either website or whatever. I guess that large companies
would create a merge directly from Access files. Thanks in advance.

As long as you can put the information into a suitable format to be used as
a datasource you should be part way out of the woods.
