Maintaining transparencies/shadows when creating a PDF from a pub

I work in pub 2007/Vista, and use Adobe 8.0 Professional (although this has
always been a problem when I worked in earlier versions as well). When I
create my layouts I use a lot of drop shadows, either imported graphics (png
usually) or even the drop shadow from Publisher. I've tried everyting... but
when I create a PDF to sent to my printer (commercial), the drop shadows turn
solid gray. I've tried evrey setting imaginable on the PDF advanced menu, and
I can't get those shadows to look shadow-y. Any thoughts?

Publisher has always had problems with transparency. The workaround is to save
the picture with a .png extension and then reinserting into Publisher.

These are mostly all png files to begin with. Will re-saving them and
re-inserting them do anything?

Thanks-

If the shadows are already transparent and saved as .png then there isn't much
Publisher can do. You'll have to try an editing program. I'm only speaking of
objects that you applied shadows to in Publisher.
