Major "database daemon not responding" problem

S

Simon Pollock

My situation is getting increasingly worse. Entourage will not respond at
all for about 20 minutes at a time. In Activity Monitor there is a red line
saying that Database Daemon is not responding. I have unchecked the
Spotlight option so it does not search in Entourage.

It seems that these incidents are increasing in frequency so I cannot work
in Entourage while this is all going on.

What is database daemon and why does it keep hanging like this?

Thanks

Make sure you have only one daemon in your Startup Items. If you see more
than one Microsoft Database daemon delete them all and let Entourage
recreate a new one.

The Microsoft Database Daemon allows the Reminder to work even if all MS
applications are closed. The daemon is actually used all the time to access
the Database. Even Word uses it. This is why you need to Quit Notifications
and/or the Microsoft Database daemon when you install MS updates. It could
also interfere with backup applications.

Try trashing preferences:

com.microsoft.AlertsDaemon.plist

com.microsoft.OfficeNotifications.plist
