I have used Outlook 97 8.02.4212 for years, with no
problem. Suddenly, while I was sending/receiving email,
it suddenly stops working. I sent an email and got an
application error, and the email stayed in the Outbox. I
exited Outlook, rebooted and when Outlook opened the
message disappeared from the Outbox. I thought it was
fixed but since then I have had nothing but problems. I
could not delete mail in my inbox, nor could I go to
tools, options. I could open email that had already been
read but not delete it. I could not send/receive mail or
start a new message. Everything was acting quirky and
slow. I ran the inbox repair tool (scanpst). My
outlook.pst file was 298 MB. The tool said there were
only minor problems and a repair was not necessary, but I
ran the repair anyway. This seemed to resolve some of the
quirky things. I could open all email and delete email
and move about the program. However, the program could not
retrieve new email and would get stuck trying. When I
ctrl-alt-delete it said "msgsrv32 (not responding)". I
reinstalled Office 97 - this did not improve anything. In
fact, it seemed to get worse and would get hung up while
Outlook was trying to open. I called my ISP to ensure
settings were okay - (they were); they suggested I delete
and reinstall Outlook. I did and that seemed to help
certain quirky things but it still does not retrieve
email. I can send email - I sent a test to myself and it
showed up to my webmail, but I did not receive it. It
still hangs up upon checking for mail and, when I ctrl-alt-
delete it now says "mapisp32(not responding)". Once it
tries to check for mail it seems to get hung up.
I have run a virus scan (Norton Antivirus 2003) all is
fine. Please, any ideas?

delete or lose)
