Hello,

If someone sends you a spreadsheet, or even if I start my own, can I enter a command that has Excel reorder the names alphabetically?

Yes, use the sort function. I don't have 2008, so can't point you in
the exact direction, but on 2004 there's a couple of buttons, A-Z and
Z-A, depending on which way you want to sort.

It isn't going to happen "automatically" as you enter new information, but
in an existing list you can sort as indicated by PhilD. Just make sure that
your data is in consecutive columns & rows (no subtotals, empties, etc.)
within the list, and it's best if you have captions/field names at the top
of each column. Then you can just click in the column you want to sort by &
click the appropriate button any time you want.

If you want to sort on up to 3 columns (such as: State>City> Last Name)
click in the list then go to Data> Sort.
