Make Office free

I have a suggestion for Microsoft regarding Microsoft Office. How about if
Microsoft offers the older Office version for free when a new version, like
Office 2007, is released? The older version could be switched to ad
supported or something, and offered for free. Comments?

also, I need to add "does not qualify for a discounted upgrade" to my
suggestion along with ad-supported.

Last time Microsoft polled its workers, they expect a paycheck
and not work for "free".

Great idea.
I think the automakers should do the same thing.

That's not entirely fair. An old car, however old, still has resale value
even if only as scrap. What's a copy of Office 97 worth?

If someone absolutely needs Access 97 to run an older database application, a whole lot!

On eBay, about $20-$30 average selling price, with a few very wild extremes.

I think the OpenOffice folks would not care for it a bit. And then there
is the issue of support(none). I don't see Microsoft taking the bait on
that idea at all.
