Make read only after baseline set

2007 SP1 enterprise server
On 2003 once you changed the ownership, the PM would be locked out of the
schedule. 2007 does not work the same way. Once we baseline a schedule, we
want to lock it for a time to keep folks other than the administrator to
access. What is the easiest way to do this in 2007?

If I understand you want to lock out the plans from being opened by the PM
Group?
You would need to change the Security Template for the PM Group so the Open
Project is unchecked under Project. And if you have any other groups who can
open projects such as Portfolio or Proposal Reviewer they would need to have
the box unchecked as well. proably the quickest way to allow and disallow
groups at the same time.

I only want to lock the PM out of specific baselined projects for a short
time. In the meantime, another person needs to open the project in
read/write to add coding for importing into another system (MPM). When final
approval is received the project status is changed to active status and it is
released (unlocked) read/write back to the project mananger.
Thanks,
Peg

Then you have to have the coder be the one to check out the project.
Or change the PM's ability to open plans.
Other then telling the PM not to open the plan not sure what else you can do
that quick and easy.

There is a fairly simple way to handle this situation, but it does require a
minimal amount of work for the Project Server administrator. Here's what
he/she would need to do to handle this unique security situation:

1. Create a custom security Group called Read Only Projects. Do not set
any permissions for the Group and save the Group.
2. Create a custom security Category called My Read Only Projects and add
it to the Read Only Projects group.
3. In the Permissions grid for the Ready Only Projects group, set the Save
Project to Project Server permission to Deny.
4. Do not specify any other permissions and then save the Category.

Now, here's the trick on how to use the new Group and Category. When you
need to specify a temporary Read Only project, do the following:

1. Open the My Read Only Projects category and add the project to the list
of projects on the right side of the Projects section.
2. Save the Category.
3. Open the Read Only Projects group and add the project manager of the
project to the Selected Users list in the Users section.
4. Save the Group.

Because the project manager of the project is a member of the Project
Managers group, he/she will still be able to see and open the project, but
because of his/her membership in the Read Only Projects group, he/she WILL
NOT be able to save the project. This means he/she can only open the
project Read-Only. When you need to release the project back to Read/Write
status, simply reverse the above set of four steps. Just a thought. Hope
this helps.
