Making columns remain in view?

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could tell me how I can format a column s
that when I scroll to other columns, one column always stays in view.
For example, I am comparing salaries for a set of positions to th
salaries of other employers for the same positions. Each employer ha
several columns, so I have to scroll over to see each employer's data.
However, I would like it to be that when I scroll to a differen
employer, the list of positions remains fixed, so that I always have
reference point for the data itself. Does this make sense? I've see
it done with rows before, but I could never figure out what was makin
them stationary. I hope that someone here knows how.

Thanks,
Jeremy

It's important to select the right cells before you freeze a window.

Usually, the window is frozen to the left, and above, the active cell.
For example, if you select cell D4, and choose Window>Freeze Panes, rows
1:3 will be frozen, and column A:C will be frozen

However, if you have cell A1 selected, the screen will be frozen above
and to the left of the centre of the screen.

Experiment a bit, and you'll see how it works.

its the same as rows, go to the 1st row, to the cell to the right of the
information you want to see always click window|freeze panes and that should do
the trick, it works for both columns and rows, enjoy :)
