making cross-reference hyperlink non-editable

Using Word 2003, I want to have some text cross-referenced to and
hyperlinked to text elsewhere in the document. I want the first chunk
of text to not be identical to the second chunk of text and not be
editable except by changing the second chunk of text. I have the
cross-refence set up.How do I make the first chunk non-editable?
