making notes not visible when projecting a presentation

Is it possible to have lecture notes in PowerPoint but have them not appear
on the projected screen presentation?

In PowerPoint go to SET UP SHOW, in the MULTIPLE MONITORS section (lower
right), check the SHOW PRESENTER VIEW. It will walk you through the steps to
setup the monitors to use this mode (you need to enable 'extended desktop'
with your graphics card).
