Making ODBC queries work with Excel v. X and mysql

I've been trying to make ODBC queries work with Excel v. X (mysql
server) and after struggling with the configuration of the ODBC drivers,
it seems to be almost working: I'm able to run the query:

Using "Get External Data... New database Query" starts Microsoft Query
and I'm able to select the Data Source, create the SQL query, and see
the preview of the results... But after going back to Excel and
confirming the "Where do you want to put the data?" dialog, Excel gives
this error: "To run this query, you must specify an external data
source" -- but I just had specified an external data source !!

I'm probably overlooking something silly ... any ideas?

My configuration is:

Mac OS X 10.3.2
Excel v. X with service packs up to "office update 10.1.5"
Microsoft Query has been installed
Openlink ODBC driver (Driver: 05.10.0903 OpenLink MySQL 3.x Lite Driver)

TIA

Hi

Since you received data into MS Query one would expect that MS Query
would know that there was a connection.

I'd give product support a jingle and see if they know about this problem.

You can send in a problem report using the Feedback section of the Excel
help menu, but that won't get you a personal reply.

However, since I know of no one else has reported this kind of problem
I'm wondering if there could be something on your computer that's amiss.

Before doing anything please run Disk Utility First Aid and repair
permissions on your drive. See if that fixes it.

Repairing the permissions didn't help...

I've tried the same configuration on a Mac OS X 10.2.x computer and
there everything is working (with some quirks, but works). I'm starting
to think that the problem has something to do with having installed
version 10.3 of Mac OS X: either the ODBC driver or Excel are having
problems with "Panther".

Anybody here has used Excel and Openlink ODBC drivers with success on
10.3?

Thanks

It was a problem with the configuration of the odbcinst.ini file,
comparing the contents of this file with the same one on my 10.2 machine
I managed to edit it manuallly and now I solved the problem. May be
there's something wrong with the installation process of Openlink ODBC
drivers on 10.3.

Thanks

Hi

Please take a moment to let OpenLink know about this. That company is very
responsive to consumer feedback.
