Making office XP use offline files as default

We have a very slow network link. Can we configure WindowsXP / OfficeXP to
use offline files as the default location and those changes will be synced
back to the server on a regular basis in the background? Thank you for your
help.

No. When online (even over a slow link), Windows XP only makes the online
copy available. In order to use the offline copy, you must go offline. You
can also set a threshold value where it will always be offline if the link
speed is lower than XX. However, this is really flaky - we have tested it
and basically decided it was garbage. Sometimes servers on the local 100 MB
would go offline and others that were across 64 KB would go online.

Longhorn is the first version where they turn around that concept and work
from the local cache.
