I am quickly approaching my first schedule revision with a server based file
(I am very comfortable with schedule revisions on an "offline" file). I'm a
bit nervous about making revisions to the master copy of the schedule (on the
server). Could anyone please provide me with a few pointers on how to
accomplish a successful schedule revision (and also identify any major
pitfalls that I can avoid).
Here are a few of my questions/concerns:
1. Do I/Can I check-out the master file so that I can work on the file
offline (somewhere besides my desktop)? If not, can I make a copy of the
master file?
2. I will be consolidating several activities into one. This will cause me
to have to move actuals from the consolidated activities to the one activity
which remains. Can I do this in Project Pro? Will this affect managed
periods or some other aspect of the server?
3. Do I need to instruct users to not update while the revision is in
progress (because some of the activities they may report actual hours to are
being consolidated)?
Greatly appreciate any guidance.
