Managing Multiple Projects

Could someone please let me know, what is easier, more accurate and better
managed when coordinating multiple projects into the master projects, having
links to various projects with the project name as the summary task or
actually inserting the info into the master project manually.

Thanks

Figen,
Actually they are the same thing. When subprojects are inserted into a
master, those subprojects ARE linked to the master - they do not
actually belong to the master.

Now if you are talking about trying to set up separate summary lines
representing a select group of tasks from each subproject and then
replicating those tasks in the master, then you are opting to create a
lot of unnecessary work. It is far better to simply use Insert/Projects
to create the master. That's the whole reason that functionality was
included in Project many versions ago.

John,

Thanks for your suggestions, I just did not want to have a project that is
gigantic in size with lots of links.

Thanks again

Hi Figen,

If you copy/paste projects into the master you'll get a static master which
won't be updated when the projects change and vice versa. If you want a
dynamic link, then chosed to insert.

You might like to have a look at my series on Microsoft Project in the
TechTrax ezine, particularly #17 & 18 on Multiple Projects, at this site:

(Perhaps you'd care to rate the articles before leaving the site, :)
Thanks.)

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Figen,
You're welcome. Remember, a master file with inserted subprojects may
appear very large but it can always be filtered.
