managing updates from Subprojects in Master Projects in MSP2007

R

Retlaw

I have created a master schedule, and inserted several subprojects, which
works fine in read only or update mode. When I view all open schedule
(Arrange Windows), I can see the chages as soon as they are entered in the
Sub project to the Master or the other way around (linked).

How does one stop/manage automatic updates to the master schedule, without
compromising the work that need to be done? Is there as way to view the
changes from the subproject (like in the "Links between Project Dialogue Box"
when using links). Bearing in mind that this is a master project so no links
are required, as the projects are already linked by having inserted them, or
am I looking at it with one eye and half a brain?

Hi Retlaw,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

A master project is simple a project with place markers for the inserted
projects. As you say, amending one is reflected in the other through the
insert links, and thus the master and its projects really need to be open
for the synchronization to occur. Unless you make each project read only or
password protected, you cannot prevent the synchronization from happening as
this is precisely what it is designed to do. You could create a static
master by using copy/paste, but then the master would never be updated.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
