manual page breaks

we are unable to manually move the set page breaks on excel worksheets.
have read the help topics and can't make the pointer change to the required symbol needed to drag the page break! The pointer, when rested on the page break simply remains as a cross which will not move the automatic page break?

Are you in the Page Break Preview when attempting to move the breaks? See
View menu.

Well, let's go for the basics first

You are referring to the dashed lines that represent the page breaks,
correct? Are you positioning the pointer on one of those lines in an area
where there is no data? If so, the pointer may not change - it's best to be
in an area where data exists. The exception being if you select a range that
extends into an empty area and use the command to Set Print Area. In that
case you can manually adjust the position of the dashed page break lines.

If that isn't the problem make sure you have Office fully updated - 12.1.5
is the current update level. Repair disk permissions & restart afterwards.

Have you tried in both Normal as well as Page Layout View? Same situation
either way? What is the file format? Did you originate the file locally or
did you receive it from elsewhere? If elsewhere provide details.

Is this with one specific file or all files? If the file has multiple sheets
does the problem occur on all sheets? Is there anything else you can offer
to describe the sheet?

Sorry for previous outdated information: to move your page breaks in XL2008
set view to Normal, in menu View.
