Manual template

I'm trying to figure out how to use the "manual" template that comes with
Word 2003.

(1) In the template it says to print out the template, then "position
yourself in Normal View to see the Style names next to each paragraph." When
I switch to normal view, I don't see any style names next to the paragraphs.
I tried opening the .dot as a template, and I tried opening a new .doc and
specifying manual as the template for it. Same story. If I open the styles
and formatting taskbar, I can see the style name when I put the insertion
point in a paragraph, but I don't have to be in normal view to do that. I've
got to be missing something basic here.

(2) The template contains 6 pages of text. If I want to use the template to
create a new manual, am I supposed to start by selecting all and then
deleting before I write my own manual? If so, why would it say "To create a
drop cap for the lead paragraph, like the example above, select and highlight
the letter T, and type a new letter." That T would be gone if I delete
everything.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

1. In order to see the style names, you must set the style area width (Tools
| Options | View) to an amount greater than zero.

2. Don't delete all the text. Select it and replace it (by typing) as you
go.

1. Duh. Thanks.
2. I'm not sure I like the idea of typing over 6 pages of text that have
nothing to do with my topic, and are not organized the way my writeup will
be. I think I'll print out a copy of manual.dot annotated with the style
names, then delete everything from manual.dot before I begin.

Thanks for the help,

You might find it more satisfactory to create your own template from
scratch.
