Manually Uninstall of Project Server 2003

When I try to uninstall PS2k3 (either through the control panel or CD) I get
a “cannot uninstall fatal error†message. I made a mistake by uninstalling
WSS 1st and deleting all SQL DB's and user accounts (MSProjectUser and
MSProjectServerUser) so my sequencing is wrong. I need a reference to
manually uninstall PS2k3. I'm against a wall, time wise, so any help would be
greatly appreciated.

(I just joined the MPA today and look forward to working with some of you in
the near future)

Dennis:

You'll need to put your Project Server installation back in working order.
Restore the database and SQL accounts to the server and use the Editsite
tool to edit your site connections. This should put you back to a position
where you can run the uninstall.

To recreate the database, restore a backup. If you don't have a backup
database, you can create one using the sql scripts and the setupdb.cmd file
from the installation CD. If I recall correctly, there are instructions for
this in the installation guide. You can get the editsite tool from Microsoft
downloads. If you want, send me an email and I'll send you a blank database
backup.

Hi Gary

First of all I want to thank you for your help and suggestions. You're a
gentleman and a scholar. With that said, I still have a problem.

I was able to recreate the database ProjectServer, as per your suggestion,
the two login accounts and defined each with their appropriate roles and
access permissions. Everything appears to be in place, however when I try to
complete the uninstall of PS2k3 again either through the CD or Control Panel
Add/Remove programs I get a message indicating that PS2k3 cannot uninstall
due to a Fatal Error. How do I find out what that Fatal Error is?

I ran the Editsite utility and everything failed (Virtual Directory, MSADC,
and Database) except for the Registry test which passed. Is it possible that
I still have some Registry remnants messing up some pointers/indicators etc?

Dennis:

The point of the using the EditSite tool is that it allows you edit the
registry. You're likely correct that the registry is the problem. The
EditSite tool is the solution to that particular problem. So, *edit* the
site and save the changes, and the registry will then contain the correct
pointers to the virtual directory (you didn't say you deleted that) and the
database..

Hi Gary
I did what you suggested and resolved the Database failure (wrong
account/password). I then worked on the Virtual Directory (yes I did delete
it) and recreated it. I ran the remove from the Control Program Add/Remove
and it appears to have removed it. I will keep you posted if I have any
relapses. I will continue with the uninstall by doing the folllowing, in the
order specified:
1. Deleting the ProjectServer DB
2. Renaming the files in the data directory.
3. Deleting the 2 PS accounts in the Login directory MSProjectServerUser
and
MSProjectUser.
4. Delete Web Sites and Virtual Directories pertaining to Project Server

That, hopefully, will clean up the server for the reinstall. Did I miss
anything?
