Manuscript Layout

Word 2000 with Windows ME
I'm trying to type a manuscript for camera ready printing. I set the page up
to the printer's specs: using 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, margins l 3/4 top and bottom,
2 1/16" left and right, this is supposed to have an actual image size of 4
3/8 x 7 1/2 including header and footer. However, I end up with (instead of
7 1/2" of typing) 8".

How can this be? Please help! Thanks.

Whoever wrote these instructions must be more familiar with Word Perfect,
where the top and bottom margins are the header and footer margins. You need
to set the header and footer margins to 1.75", then set the top and bottom
margins to whatever is required to get a comfortable distance between your
header/footer and your text. If you don't have a header or footer, you can
set the top or bottom margin to 1.75".
