How can I make outlook MAPI compliant? Why would it currently not be recognised as one by other software?

Perhaps because another mail program was installed later. You might want to
post your Outlook version and the symptoms you are seeing.

I also am having the same issue. Working in Outlook Express 6.0 on Windows XP Home version. I am trying to send digital photos from a package ZoomBrowser EX (from Canon) and it will not connect to Outlook. (I used to be able to do this but now also have Lotus Notes running on same machine). I have a wireless network w/cable modem to connect to internet. Any suggestions on settings that can be changed? Please help!
