Suzanne,

I've now found "From Text" but it appears to be getting
worse.

When printing pages 8 and 1, and 2 sides per page, I then
fold the paper in half and have page 1 with the border
round it. The border can be any reasonable distance from
the edge of the paper (which now looks A5 size). All that
is on the first page is my logo, Est 1985 and the
telephone number.

I'm trying different "pt" settings under "borders and
shading" but the border appears to be moving to the left
hand side. All I need is the border to be centralised on
the page.

Is this a lost cause using my HP960c inkjet printer?

Are you printing "2 pages per sheet" (either through the Print or Page Setup
dialog)? If not, how are you getting the border to surround just half the
page?

Suzanne,

I am printing two pages per sheet. I print pages 8 & 1 so
that page 1 will end up on the right hand side of a
landscape view.

There is no getting around the fact that your page border must be within the
printable area of your printer. You will have to either adjust the border to
a position that will print or get a printer that can print closer to the
edge.

Suzanne,

I've been working on my problem for most of the day and
still no luck!

Is there anyway the border can be adjusted so that I can
state how far away from the edge of the paper I want it?

I've tried using Word 2002 at my office to change the
gutter position but all that seems to do is move any text
and pictures over to the right hand side of the page.

You tell Word where you want the margin, and then you set the border a
certain distance (0-31 pts) from that. This means that if you want the
border the maximum distance from the margin, you must set the margin at
least 31 pts inside the printable area.

You can establish what the printable area is by setting all your margins to
0". When you try to leave the Page Setup dialog, Word will offer to fix your
margins; accept this offer and note the settings it makes. The largest
margin is the one you'll have to go with if you want the border a uniform
distance from all sides. On landscape Letter paper, you would add this to
5.5" for the inside dimension (or set a 5.5" gutter); A4 would be different.

The above applies if you're formatting individual pages (as in
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/BookletPrinting.htm) or using the
"2 pages per sheet" option in Page Setup as opposed to the one in the Print
dialog. When you use the latter, Word is reducing your text; at least from
A4 to A5 is proportional (which is *not* true from 8.5" x 11" to 5.5" x
8.5") so you have a better chance of guessing correctly, but there's still
going to be some trial and error involved.

I'm glad you got it working. The point where it goes to 2 pages per sheet is
where I found I had conceptual problems!
