Margins in Word 97

I followed the directions to change the default settings in Word 97. File>
Page Setup> Margins then clicked default as per the help instructions, When I
close out it asks if I want to save the Dictdoc Template. I check yes, but
everytime I come back the formatting has changed back to Microsoft’s
ridiculous 1.25 inches on the left and right.

It's the Normal.dot template that should be being changed. Create a new
blank document by clicking on the New Document button and then made the
changes.
