Margins not formatting correctly

E

evn

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I have used the page setup tool and the formatting document button under the format tab. However, the display indicates the correct margins are set. Top - 1", Bottom - 1", Left - 1.5", Right - 1". The Header and Footer settings are at .5". However, when I view the document, it is apparent that the left margin is actually 2". I cannot get it to change. Help.

Hi Evn -

Please give a bit more to go on:

Specific versions of Word & OS X and specs on your Mac?

Is this a condition in a specific document or does it occur in all
documents, some documents???

In which "view" are you seeing this - Print Layout, Print Preview,
Publishing Layout, Normal...?

What - exactly - makes it "apparent" that the margin is at 2"... Remember,
nobody here can see your screen :)

What happens if you actually print the document?

I'm sorry, I thought you could see the specs on the side of the email. I did not realize they were not transmitted. I have Mac OS X, Version 10.5.4 (Leopard) and 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro.
Also, I have Microsoft Office 2008 with Word 12.1.1 Version.

When you view the document on the screen, you can see on the ruler that there is only 5.5" of writing space, and the indent is one full inch inside of the numeral 1. Also, when I print on the HP LaserJet 4200, it is printed with a 2" margin.

I hope this helps. I have tried everything I know and have read from the blog and the help page.

Unfortunately the info that comes through is only "Office 2008" & "OS X 10.5
Leopard" - the full complement of digits often makes all the difference in
the world :) Based on what you've added the only things I can suggest are
that you Quit Word, repair disk permissions & perhaps try a different user
account to see if the behavior persists and check to make sure you have the
latest driver update for your printer.

In order to offer more, though, I need the answers to the other questions in
my initial reply. Also, at the left end of the ruler, at what measurement
does the gray turn to white? Additionally, there is a set of markers on the
ruler at or near that spot - an upper & lower triangle plus a small square
at the bottom of the lower triangle - at what position on the ruler do they
appear?

Hi Evn:

That sounds as though you may have an indent applied to your paragraph
style.

Look in Format>Paragraph>Indents and Spacing... Any indent you see in there
will be added to your page margins.

The other thing that will do this is bullets or numbering: these can add an
indent even if the numbering or bullet is turned off.

To change it, use Format>Style>Modify>Format>Paragraph... And Don't forget
to check the "Add to Template" checkbox on the way out.

Hope this helps
