Markup area

I'm using a document created by another company Word 2003 that apparently has
some protections and can only be viewed and printed with a markup area on the
right hand side. None of this shows up when the document is edited or
printed in Word 2003. In 2007 every change that has ever been made is
tracked with either balloons or strikethroughs. Does anyone know how to get
rid of all that? Or to print so that none of that shows up?

Couple of choices. Go to Review. From there you can choose to accept all
changes or you can choose to view "Final" document or you can choose
"Show Markup" and de-select the items you don't want to see. Note that
some of this may be slightly different in Word 2003 as I have 2007 and
don't remember the exact menu choices. But the idea is still the same.

Also, when printing you can choose in the Print dialog box next to
"Print what" to choose to print "Document showing markup". You might
want to check to make sure that is not chosen when you print.

I suspect in Word 2003 the security option to show tracked change when
opening a file was turned off. IOW, they were always there but hidden from
your view. While the default for the option is to show the markup, some
users do turn it off even though it isn't recommend - you're experiencing
why we don't recommend it. :)

If you want to check this in Word 2003, go to Tools/Options and on the
Security tab, see if "Make hidden markup visible when opening or saving" is
selected. If not, then select it so you're not inadvertently tracking
changes in the document or unknowingly sending out documents containing
tracked changes .
