mass change of "Modified" date...?

Howdy,

I just archived my Inbox and found that more than a thousand
messages that I assumed would be archived were not.

When I checked, I learned that they all have identical
entries in the "Modified" field, and those are far later
than the date that the messages were received.

What might cause so many messages to have the same Modified
entry, and is there anything I can do to change it?

Moving messages already changes the modified date and no, you cannot undo
this.

I thank you for your comment...

Though I have no idea how the modified date on all these
messages got changed, I have to find an appropriate way to
archive them.

Are archive files any different from other PST files? That
is, could I manually create a new PST folder and then
manually move the old messages to it? I understand that the
archive function will not work, but could I not just move
the message manually based on the date they were received?

You can just select the messages you want and move them to the location of
your choice.
