Master on Document Stencil

Yesterday I updated the font on a custom master shape in the document
stencil. I then saved the shape in the document stencil. Now when I view
the document stencil, the shape shows as a box with a cross through it. I
have also tried updating the shape in my document and then copying it to the
document stencil with the new font and again the display in the document
stencil is not correct.
When I drag the shape from the document stencil onto the page the shape
appears correctly, but Iwould like to know why the shape is no longer
displaying correctly on the document stencil as it is useful to be able to
see what the shape looks like rather than a square box.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I am using Visio 2003.

a. Put the stencil into edit mode
b. right-click on the shape and select
Edit Master -> Master Properties
and select "generate icon automatically ... "

Hi Paul

I've followed your instructions but unfortunately no joy. Any other ideas?

Are you sure you've done this for the document stencil ?
P.S. You don't need to put the document stencil into edit mode.
