Master plans in Project Server 2007

Kerry

We just installed Project server 2007. I'm having problems with creating a
master plan. I create the plan inserting subprojects, and creating links
between them.( we already do this in project pro.) I then publish the
master, and it updates all the published sub projects. So far so good.

Now here's the problem. If go into my published master, it automatically
pulls new sub projects from working. I assumed it would only be pulling
projects from published. I tried this several times, having another PM update
his plan, but not publish it. The published master continues to pick up his
draft changes. I am nuts, or just configured wrong? In my opinion, the only
time the published master should change, is when published sub projects
change.

Hi Kerry,

Are you looking the master project in Project Center under Project Web
Access? If you see the master project here, you will see the published
information.

On MS Project Professional, when you are inserting the sub project in
master project, do you see published version option? No, there is no
such option is available. It means MS project allows us to insert only
non-published version of the projects in master project. Master
project on Project Professional allows and provides the flexibility on
editing/view the multiple projects in consolidated view.

The behavior that you are seeing is by nature of the tool. So, no
worries...

The right thing to view the published version of master and sub
projects is from PWA -> Project Center.

Please read the section "View consolidated Program Schedules Project
Center on PWA":

Hi Kerry,

Alternatively you can view the published version of master project
from MS Project Professional by doing the following:

On File Open dialog box, choose Mode as "Published" to open Master
Project

Note: Master project will open in Read Only mode by chossing
Published mode, no updates will be possible.

Thanks
Chak
