Master project error

Hello,

I'm using MSP Pro 2003 and project server 2003. I have a master file that
has approx 30 sub-projects. When I select all, then select Show all Subtasks,
I receive the following error:

An important error occurred.

Check row 0 column 116.

Well, I do know that row 0 is the project summary task and I've selected for
those to be show in the sub-projects. However, I don't have 116 columns in
any of the files. How can I zero in on this error?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Interestingly enough, after I close the error dialog box the tasks have not
been expanded to show all tasks. However, if I again select all, then select
Show all tasks, it opens everything right up! Hmmmm?!

30 projects is a lot. Maybe your computer memory is overtaxed. Have you
tried with fewer subprojects? Project does weird things when memory gets
short.

Hi Leslie
I am using Standard 2002, and I have hundreds of projects rolled up in
series of master projects rolled up into other master projects and a central
resource pool. Works fine, over different locations and servers. Has done for
2 years. There is no memory problems or system problems that occur with the
Master file or any of the inserted files despite many attempts by PMs to
screw up their schedules, and their own master fies. Whilst I am not a
Project Server user I would ignore the message and soldier on. You haven't
mentioned that it is a show-stopper. Keep selecting and Show All Tasks, it
will open them eventually. Then do a common sense check on what you see. MS
Project needs a firm hand at times.
If you are getting odd problems I'd check the integrity of the individual
schedules themselves. You can bet that dependencies set on summary tasks are
at the center of it. Make sure that all dependencies/links are set at the
task level, and that all tasks are ASAP (with the absolute minimum of hard
coded dates) and most of the problems with your master schedule will be those
of a project management nature.

Hello Pratta,

I also have another master file which has >150 files and no issues. I also
suspect it has to do with something in an individual project. As posted in
another discussion thread, we have several issues going on with this/these
files, so I'll keep poking and prodding!

Much thanks to you and Reid on your responses!
