Master Projects and Tasks of Subprojects

Is it possible to create a master project with just select tasks from several
projects? We would like to view/roll up just the production support tasks
from the various teams' projects. Or would the best thing to do is to
seperate the production support tasks and have the teams put them in seperate
projects from their other tasks so that we can make them subprojects to a
master? Note that option B would mean work for all our PMs to separate
projects and wouldn't that make a mess with the times already posted to these
projects?

All help/input is greatly appreaciated!!

What I do is have a "portfolio" project that has several key tasks that
I want to track from the sub projects then I link the task in my sub
projects to my newly created tasks in my "portfolio" project.
Therefore, my portfolio project is connect via external links.

Thanks for your response! Doesn't portfolio has something to do with having
analysis services installed and a cube generated?

I have never used external links before so I will have to investigate how
that is done!
Thanks!

my "portfolio" was just representing a set of projects. The portfolio
schedule is just another schedule.

Given the amount of work to separate these tasks from their present
projects, your Project Server administrator could create a custom enterprise
Filter in the Enterprise Global file to display only those production
support tasks, whether in a single project or a master project. You could
then create a master project and apply the Filter to display only those
production support tasks across all the subprojects.

If your Project Server administrator does not have any easy way to identify
these production support tasks when creating the Filter, he/she could also
create a custom enterprise Task flag field called something like "Production
Support" in the Enterprise Global file. After doing so, each PM would need
to launch Microsoft Project, log into Project Server, open each project,
temporarily display the new field in any Task view, and then set a value for
every task in the project. Obviously, the production support tasks would be
set to a Yes value. The Project Server administrator could then build a
custom enterprise Filter that would display only the production support
tasks by filtering on the Production Support field, looking for all tasks
whose value = Yes. Just a thought. Hope this helps.
