Master Slide

Can someone explain, what is a master slide? And why and how can we use
mutiple master slides.

I have a presentation that I am creating. I have a master slide with the
background, fonts etc. Within my presentation there are three different
slides that are repeated throughout the slide show with the same layout but
different information! I wanted to create 3 different slides (master slides?)
that I can import as needed. Is there anything I can do instead of copying
and pasting the slides?
