Echo & Steve, Thanks for all your help. I cant wait to try it out. Echo, you got the big white fill color also huh. Steve, it's a permenant white fill box, not just the color it turns when you type in text in the placeholder. I cant even get rid of it off the master slide. I have to delete it indiviually from each slide. I hope this makes sence. I talked to a computer store here in Nevada and they teach PP and they said I know more than them. They cant help me. slides for me with text on them. I have at this point to clean up the tex
cus some of the words are above the placeholder

Ok, I'm pretty sure I know what's happening here. See, PPT imports text fro
Word based on the styles you've used in Word when creating the text. So
think what you're seeing is all your text coming in as individual slid
titles, which makes for a lot of cleanup

I would recommend that you spend a little time in the Word document jus
adding styles to your existing text. Here's how it will transfer to PPT

Word --> PP
Heading 1 --> Slide titl
Heading 2-->Primary bulle
Heading 3-->Secondary bullet

Whenever PPT sees text which is specified in Word as Heading 1 style, i
creates a new slide

I know you don't use the placeholders, but if you're going to import Wor
text the way you are (Insert/Slides/From Outline), then the text is going t
be placed in a placeholder. Period. There's nothing you can do about that
although you can save yourself some cleanup time by using the placeholder
as they're intended

When you create your master slide, don't delete the text placeholder
Instead, resize it and reposition it so it is at least similar to what yo
want your slides to look like. Remove the bullets from the placeholder i
you want. Set the color of the text and all that, but don't just delete th
thing. Or resize and move it out of the way (down into a corner of the slid
or something)

Then when you're creating your actual slides, select the Title and Tex
slide layout (or even use just the Title Slide layout). The placeholder
should be positioned and formatted on those slides in the manner yo
specified on your master slide

but MY PROBLEM IS AT THIS POINT IS THE WHITE FILL COLOR AND BLACK OUTLIN

LINE IS THERE, which I cant understand since the autoshape says no fill n
line. Why does it do this? I go back to Master Side and it's not there t
get rid of it. I have to go back to Normal View and delete each slid
indivually which is a pain. Thanks for trying to fiqure this out

Ok. I know I babbled up above about stuff that isn't really what you'r
concerned about right this second. I know you just want to get rid of the
white fill and black outline, but reading through and working through the
suggestions above may help you accomplish this as well.

That said, here's what I think is going on with the white fill/black
outline.

My first thought is that you just need to reapply the slide layout (not the
slide master) to your slides after you import your Word document.

For example, if I import a Word file into a presentation here using PPT 2002
(aka PPT XP), even though my template (my master slide) specifies Futura
White 40 pt as the title font, the text comes into the title placeholder
formatted as Verdana 40pt bold, and it's black. (I suspect that's because my
Word document uses Verdana Bold 16 pt color=black for Heading 1 style. PPT's
applying the slide master's 40-pt size, but it doesn't touch the rest of the
formatting.)

If I reapply the slide master to the slide, it doesn't do anything to the
slide. The title font still stays black Verdana bold 40pt. But if I reapply
the slide *layout* (I use the title and text layout), the title font changes
to what is specified on the slide master -- that is, it changes to Futura
White 40 pt (not bold).

This is why it's important that you don't delete the placeholders from your
master slides, as it doesn't really help anything, and it may actually be
hurting things.

If you don't want the bulleted text layout, then use just a Title Slide
layout and format your Title Slide Master appropriately. That is, resize and
reposition the title placeholder, and format the font size and color in that
placeholder as well. If you go that route, you'll want to set up your Word
document so that all the text in it is formatted as Heading 1 so it all
comes in as title text. Then just reapply the slide layout to the slides.
You can do that in slide sorter view to speed things along.

You know what? I just tested something here. I deleted the placeholders from
my master slides, and guess what. When I import slides from outline, PPT
automatically creates placeholders on the slides as determined by the
heading styles in Word -- *and they all have a big white fill*. I think
that's the crux of the issue here.

I'm losing track of this thread because I'm just seeing bits and

pieces with
each individual post, but I think I understand that you're seeing a
placeholder/textbox of some sort with a white fill when you add a picture as
your background.

Is this just when you're actually editing text in the placeholder? If

so,
it's because PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP) actually compensates for the fact that
you have a photo, and it gives you a contrasting fill in the placeholder so
you can see the text while you're typing it. It should go away after you
click outside the placeholder.

If that's not it, you might try this when making your master slides:

1. Don't delete the "click here to add <whatever text> placeholders
2. Yes, I know you don't want those there, so just format them with 6-pt
text the same color as your background color. Oh, you have a photo as the
background, right? That's okay, just format the placeholders to 6-pt text,
and use black as the font color. We can fix that later if it resolves your
fill problems.
3. Next, check your autoshape default settings. I can't tell what you're
doing amidst all these posts, but I suspect you're just drawing a regular
textbox and typing in it.
a. Do that for one textbox -- that is, click the textbox icon, click on
the slide, and type some text (it doesn't matter what).
b. Then format the text and textbox the way you want it.
c. Then right-click the textbox and choose "autoshape defaults."
d. To be on the safe side, with the formatted textbox selected, go to
Format/Fonts and select "default for new objects."

See, when you set your text formatting on the slide master, that

formatting
is for text in the slide placeholders. But you said somewhere, I think, that
you don't want to use the slide placeholders. In fact, I think you were
deleting them from all slides? So the fill is probably coming from somewhere

else.

Steve & Echo S, I dont know what I did yet but it's working ok for now. I don't know what Heading 1 is Echo, but I am cleaning up my documents and putting the words in small sentences with no spaces between paragraphs so it will insert onto the slides with no gaps. I didn't get the white fill color box this time dont know why. Thanks for all your help I think I am on my way to mastering this thing. I would like to try and teach others now what I know which isnt much. Thanks again Alic

Well, it would probably be more accurate to say that I can reproduce the
white boxes here by deleting the placeholders from the master slide.

Hi again, I am at it again. I am in a pickle. I have my songs in Word Doc. Some songs when I go to Insert-slides from Outline-find the song I want insert it, sometimes PP brings it over perfectly and seperates each text line on it's own slide which I like. Some word doc. comes over all on one slide which the text is hanging over the slide, and some times it comes over with some of the text and not all of the document. Can anyone answer me why this is happening? Far as I know all the documents are alike. I use Xp 2002 thanks Alice
