Master/Sub-Projects vs. Consolidated Projects

Linda

What is the difference between the two? I want to create
individual projects and then consolidate them for summary
reporting to mgmt.

Also, when the individual projects are updated, is the
master updated as well? How about vice versa?

When you insert projects into a blank project using Insert - Project, you
have created what is known as either a "master project" or a "consolidated
project." Each project that you insert is known as a subproject. When the
subprojects are updated, the master project is as well. You can set
cross-project dependencies in the master project so that if one project
slips, dependent projects will slip as well. Hope this helps.

Create the master project, expand all of the subprojects, and then set
dependencies from tasks in one subproject to tasks in another subproject.
When you save the master project, be sure to click the Yes to All button to
save all of the changes to the subprojects. Hope this helps.

Hello Linda,

As a complement of Dale's answer : to create such a link:
- Select the predecessor
- Press down the Ctrl Key
- Select the successor
- Click the Link Tasks button in the tool bar
