Thank you everyone. I finally got the formula to work. I had to do a
find/replace where I looked for spaces and then removed them.

In case you find it's a hassle to always

... do a find/replace where I looked for spaces
and then removed them.

try the suggested SUMPRODUCT formula
with the TRIM() added, viz. e.g..

=SUMPRODUCT((TRIM(Calls!$A$2:$A$176)=TRIM(A2))*1,Calls!$B$2:$B$176)
