Material Resource Assignment Limit

Project Std/Pro 2003 SP3
My client cannot load more than $10,000/minute in cost for a material
resource.
The task type is fixed duration, non-effort driven. He assigns one material
resource (pro-rated) at $1.00 with 10 million units (He is receiving a large
order of material). Task duration is 1 day.

In the split screen view, it all looks fine at the bottom. On the Gantt
Chart, the cost column refuses to display a number larger than $10,000 *
[Minutes/Day]. We verified this by changing the hours/day setting. The max
value we are seeing for cost is $4,800,000.

So, there is a discrepancy between what shows on the task details form
(bottom pane of the split Gantt View) and the cost in the Gantt chart. I
cannot duplicate it on any other file.

The problem is in the file since it follows us from machine to machine.
Also, we cannot duplicate the problem in other files.

Task Usage and Resource Usage views show the same issue. Remaining Cost (or
Cost) shows $4.8M on the left, but the spread is correctly showing the
material dollars spread as work. Yet, immediately below that (on the cost
row) is will only show $10,000/minute.

We are getting around the problem by changing the duration to 3 days.

Where do I look now?

Hi,

In Project 2003 SP3 and Project 2007 SP1 I can add a material Resource
($1/unit) to a 1d Task with 1,200,000 units. The Gant Chart shows >$1m (once
I widen the column!

What version of Project and what service pack?

Hi Rod, P2003 SP3 (both pro and std), and P2007 SP1

the problem is in the file for certain. Other files are problem free, only
this one file produces the error. So my problem is certainly in this file
somplace. ANy ideas where to go look?

****** I think I found a bug P2003 SP3 only *****

I'll write it up and put it up on Private so MS can take a look.

I can reproduce/correct the problem at will.
