Max. number of characters to be shown in one celle?

I hope somebody can tell me, if there is a max. number of characters, there can be shown in one celle
When I write a long text, the celle shows only ##### no matter how much I enlarge the celle. I can still see the original text in the formula line, but it can not be shown in the spread sheet, and I can not copy it to word.

According to the specifications (Help/Specifications) each cell can hold
a maximum of 32,767 characters, of which 1024 can be displayed.

If you enter a manual line break within the first 1024 characters,
(alt-Enter), you can get more than that.

Thank you for trying to help me! In the cells displaying "#######" I have fewer than 1024 characters (only about 500). Do you think it is possible, that I have to change this somewhere in the setup? I can't find anything about this under properties etc.
I can tell that the max number of characters there can be shown in each cell in my spreadsheet is app 255.

Hi

The width of cell is limited with 256 characters. To display more, you have
to use Wrap Text feature (Format.Cells.Alignment)

I'm sorry, but I have to ask again :-

I have a Danish version of Excel, and I can not find any feature that translates to "wrap text". I have tried the different possibilities under format.cells.alignment, but nothing seems to help. I know you can't give the answer in Danish, but I hope that you will take the time to please guide me in the right direction. Perhaps you can tell me, more specificly where I can chose this wrap text feature

Hi Jane
within format-cells-alignment check the first checkbox (in the middle
of the dialog)

Jane,

Format / Cells ( or <CNTR> + 1)
Tab Alignment (second tab from the left).
and check Wrap text (top checkbox of three, in the middle of dialog).

Thanks everybody for trying to help me solve this problem

The checkbox "wrap text" (format.cells.aligment) has been checked all the time I have been working with this spreadsheet
The number of characters in each cell does not exceed 1024. I have put in manual line breaks for app. each 100 characters. Still, all these cells show is ######## when I exceed app. 255 characters.

I hope somebody can tell me what I keep doing wrong???

This sounds like you have a number in the cell. It could
also be a formula that results in a number. Check help
under specifications and you'll see the max/min numbers
allowed. If this isn't a formula, you can always copy
what's in the formula bar and paste it into Word or
Notepad to see the value.

Try formatting the cells to General. You most likely have them formatted as
Text currently.
