Maximum file size now depends on many factors, here is a quick run down.
* Outlook 97/2002 Personal Folders (referred to as a ANSI PST)
* 2GB max file size
* 65,000 items per folder
* Personal Folders (referred to as a UNICODE PST)
* 20GB max file size (This is a software limit and can be increased)
* Unknown item count per folder
Now your mileage might vary using a unicode PST file since the format of the
drive will play a huge role in maximum file size. For example FAT32 will
not allow a single file to grow beyond 4GB. FAT is 2GB. NTFS is really the
best choice since it allows for single file to go beyond 4GB.
AFAIK, the PST file structure is undocumented and proprietary.

ps - Outlook 2003 does not convert ANSI pst's to unicode when opened.
