Max Size for PST?

Major Malfunction

I'm troubleshooting an interesting problem for someone. They are running
WinXP SP1 (soon SP2) and Outlook 2002. Everything was fine and suddenly, no
more mail is coming in. Everything on the Internet side is fine and the ISP
tech's can see test messages queuing for retrieval, so the system can send,
but not retrieve. One oddity: the PST file is 1,923,600 Kb

Is there an upper limit to the PST file size? I remember something
somewhere, but I can't find the hard info. Thanks if someone can help with
this.

My PST which I back-up on a steady basis is 50MB right now. I am running XP
SP2 and even under SP1 it was more or less 40MB.

Thanks for the input, but unless I'm mistaken, the PST I'm talking about is
over 1.9 Gb, not Mb. I have a good sized PST and that is only 150 Mb or so.
1,000 Kb = 1 Mb and the file size showing is 1,923,600 Kb.

Thanks for the help, but the PST I'm looking at is way bigger. Yours would
be 50,000 Kb. This one is 1,923,600 Kb or roughly 1.9 Gb. My personal PST is
about twice the size of yours and there's no problem.

The limit is 2 GB in OL 2002 and earlier - can you try creating a new target
PST file and see if that resolves the issue since you're bumping up against
the limit?

From Microsoft:

"In Outlook 2002 and earlier, the .pst files are in the American National
Standards Institute (ANSI) format, and the overall size has a limit of 2
gigabytes (GB)."

Did selective backup (separate files for contacts, calendar, etc) of the PST
and deleted over 200 Mb and still had the problem. This must be something
else. There is the possibility that portions of the remaining PST are
corrupt. It seems that someone combined several people's previous Outlook
files into one PST. They really made a mess of it too. . . I'm going back
next week and I'll let you know what happened.

Thanks for the help.

Did you compact the PST after you removed items from it?
