Max Units for a resource on a project

Dear All,

In EPM 2003 (using Enterprise Resource Pool) how can a Porject Manager
define Max Units of a resource for a duration on a project? Any changes to
resource sheet gets overwritten the next time project is opened.

PS: Changing Max Units in a project should not affect his Max Units in Ent
Resource Pool.

Any guess on security setting, PDS method or some other way of doing this?

Regards,
Sumit.

In an EPM environment, you cannot set the Max. Units vale for resources to
anything different than the value found in the Enterprise Resource Pool.
The Max. Units value in the Enterprise Resource Pool specifies the
percentage of an average working day that a resource is available for all
project work. Your best bet, therefore, would be to apply a tool use
methodology to each project, and in this methodology specify a maximum
amount of Units than can be applied to any resource assignment. For
example, if Mickey Cobb is only committed to work half-time on a particular
project, then make sure that you do not assign Mickey to more than 50% Units
on any task. Hope this helps.

Dear Dale,

In this scenario the best way would be to capture required Max Units in
custom field and check assignment units from this by a macro?

Any suggestions?

Sumit

That would probably work using a custom Number field, assuming you are
proficient in Microsoft Project VBA. Hope this helps.
