What are you referring to? Do you just want to change the extension - try
the explorer. If you want to change it to an .MDE file this is not only a
filetype change but also creates a new file because the E stand for
Encrypted. You create an MDE by choosing the Tools-> Options-> Database
utilities - Create MDE.
If you create an MDE it will check to see if all the VBA code is compiled
correctly and will lock it. This means users cannot get to the designview of
the forms etc. The app will work as expected. You won't be able to edit any
code though. So keep the original MDB because you will have to do the
maintenance on that file an recreate an new MDE file every time.
Firstly, thanks for your reponses.
The reason I asked because I need to submit my assignment online, which is a
microsoft access project. However, the study guideline said that I have to
change the file name as .md_ instead of .mdb, otherwise the anti-virus
systems will reject it.
I have done as your said. But is .md_ is the same with .mde ?
It is not the same, but I'm sure they intend to change it back to mdb once
it makes its way through the anti-virus system. I think Outlook will
automatically block mdb files (at least when Exchange Server is used) unless
an administrative change is made at the server level. In my experience
there is almost no chance of that.
As the others responded you can just rename it in windows explorer because
it has nothing to do with the mdb. It's just a temporarily solutions to
bypass the anti virus software. So rename it to .md_ and rename it when it
has been sent.
