MDI files display incorrectly - strange symbols

I have a number of mdi files that were created when I had Microsoft Office
2003. I now have Office 2007 with Microsoft Office Document Imaging
installed, but when I open the MDI files they are full of strange
unrecognisable symbols. The files should display music symbols and notes, but
other symbols are displayed instead. Does anyone know why this is happening,
and what I can do to view the files (and print them) the same as they were
created?

Sorry, but that article didn't help. As I mentioned, I already have
Microsoft Office Document Imaging installed. I can open the MDI files, and
the text is actually displayed correctly (eg the song title). But instead of
seeing the music notes and symbols, different symbols are displayed instead.

MDI files ar IMAGE files. I would guess you have text boxes in the file
and there is where problem lies. That file was probably created on a PC
that had some Music note font that does not exist on this PC and so
can't show that font. Either install the needed font. Or go to the
original PC and open a COPY (NOT ORIGINAL) of the file and "Make
Annotations Permanent", then send that to the destination PC.

Problem solved. I installed the Sibelius Scorch program and instantly the mdi
files correctly displayed the music. I thought MDI files were image files
too - the files were simply created by 'printing' to MDI and I had no idea
that the symbols could change when opened on a different computer. I didn't
put text boxes in the file, but perhaps the MDI OCR function somehow
interpreted the music notes as font characters? I think I'll give up on MDI,
and use pdf instead - at least my files won't change if I pdf them.

If the Scorch program supplies that font, I could see that happening.
You could see if Selecting Annotations allows you to edit those notes.
