measure tool

does anyone know how to set the default for the measure
tool to feet instead of inches?

You can go to Insert > Field and mess with the settings there, or go to
Window > Show ShapeSheet.

Find the User-defined Cells section and look for a cell named
"User.LastFormat". Just change the value to something you want to see, like
0 in, 0 ft, 0 mm, etc.

I think you might be thinking of something else. I'm
opening a site or home template, and using the drawing
tool shapes, I select the "measure tool" to check some
dimensions. This measure tool always shows in inches, so I
have to pop open the calculator to convert it to feet. I
tried your instructions but there is no User.lastformat
field. Also, Insert, Field is always greyed out.

What Chris says will work.

Change the cell to "0 ft". The measuring tool will then display in feet and
inches.

I did this just not and it kind of works. It does show in ft. and inches, but as soon as I change the lenth it switches back to inches... not sure why.
