Meeting reminders for cancelled meetings

For the past month when I open Outlook each morning
several reminders for meetings that were scheduled and
subsequently cancelled in the past open on my screen.
When I click "delete" or "snooze" I receive and error
message that the item is no longer available. How can I
permantently remove these items from Outlook?
