Memory use for screen updates

I have an application where I can open a couple of forms.
Sometimes I get the message that there's not enough memory
to update the screen.

How does the forms affect the memory use, and is there a
special memory for the screen updates - like on the
graphic card?

The graphic card is not very good - buttons are not shown
as nice as they should - instead of the proper grey 3D
appearance, they are a white and flat. So I am considering
to change the graphics card - but wondered if that could
also solve my other problem.

Access 2000 had a problem with this that was fixed in Service Release 1 for
Office 2000. The problem would occur if you went back and forth between
design view and form view and had a jpg or gif file as a background on the
form. Office 2000 is now up to Service Pack 3.

Makes sense - I have a form with a jpg background, but I
am not switching between design/form. I have another form
with a chart open at the same time - and it has then
sometimes triggered the message.

I am running the application on an A2K Runtime. How do I
see the service level of that?

And is there service packs for the Runtime?

If the problem is what was originally the problem, yes. The problem existed
in the graphics filter.

I believe that Help|About will tell you your patch level. To get the patches
for the runtime, you could try

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx

and click Check for Updates. I don't know if this will work for the runtime.

For all of the updates, check here.

I believe you can skip the SP2 update and just go to SP3 once you have SR1
installed. You will probably need your original installation point available
to you (CD, Network install share, etc).

According to the KB, the Access Runtime can be updated with these patches
but the "Access Runtime Minimum" cannot.
