Memory

Craig Pfaff

Hi,
I have 3 w/s that use FrontPage to update our website that is hosted by an
external ISP. We're all using Frontpage 2002 on XP pro and W2K Pro w/s.
After we open up FrontPage and attempt to open up the Web Page folder (we
all access the same folder located on a server)
all 3 of us receive the same error message saying;

An unexpected error occurred: Not enought memory available to complete the
operation. Close other programs to make more memory avaible, and try again.
We just click ok and everything appears to be ok.
All 3 of us have more than enough memory and this happens when we have no
other programs running.

Any thoughts as to why this is doing this?

Thanks Craig

Find and delete all *.web files associated with FrontPage. These are
hidden, system files and normally located at:

%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

(type or cut/paste this into the address bar in Windows Explorer).
The .web files will be re-created as and when required.
If the .web file for a web gets corrupted the lack of memory error
often results.

try tools/ web settings/ advanced tab, check the "delete temporary files"
box.
see if that helps.

Craig: No need to be gunshy. Many of us do it on a regular basis. It
won't hurt anything.

suggested and there wasn't anything there but I'm still getting the error
message.
Thanks Craig

Are you logged in with the same username as you use when running
FrontPage?
%APPDATA% will open the folder in the logged in username, not in any
others.

There is usually a .web file for each web and subweb you have opened.

I see sorry about that I went to the server to do the search not from w/s.
I went a head and deleted those
files from the workstation and I'm still receiving the error message.

Thanks Craig

For 3 workstations to simultaneously develop the same problem indicates to me a work
station or work station server connection issue and not necessarily a FrontPage issue.

Have any recent "common" updates been installed to the machines??
New firewalls, av programs etc??

Also, this can be a symptom of a corrupt system paging file. But for it to happen
simultaneously on 3 machines is "strange"

Hi Craig,

Are you using some antivirus application? If available, try temporarily uninstalling the antivirus application to see if this issue disappears.

Particularly, the following article describes a known issue between Office applications and the Norton Antivirus Office plug-in. If you are
using Norton Antivirus, please try the steps inside to deactive this plug-in and check again.

329820 How to use Office programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820

Also, you can try creating a new Windows profile and then log on into it to see if the same error occurs. This can help identifying if this
issue is relaed to profile integrity.

If the above suggestions do not help, I am suspecting the FrontPage installation contains damages. If convenient, please use the
following procedure to remove and reinstall FrontPage on the computer experiencing this issue.

1. Uninstall any Anti-Virus software installed
2. Clean boot the Operating System
3. Uninstall FrontPage or Office
4. Reboot to a clean boot
5. Rename all instances of the cmdui.prf file
6. Rename all instances of the \FrontPage folder
7. Rename all instances of the \FrontPageTempDir folder
8. Delete the FrontPage Registry Key
a. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\FrontPage
b. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FrontPage

9. Reinstall FrontPage 2002 or Office.

I hope the information helps.

Jason Lu

I had the same problem and the same message and after trying all the "fixes"
and checking memory, etc. etc. I came to the conclusion that it was some
sort of bug in FP2002. I upgraded to FP2003 and the problem disappeared so I
believe that it was a bug. As the poster says, the action was completed
without problem and everything was saved or imported.

Thanks Steven I apologize for the long delay in my response. This is
happening on two w/s with
2000 Pro and one XP Pro w/s. We are updated with Microsoft updates on a
daily basis but
with XP being one of the w/s I would think that the updates would be
different than 2000? Our firewall has not changed
and the av has not changed as well.
With the paging file as you mentioned is there anything I can do to check
that?
One other question Steve I'm a technet subscriber did you view my post as a
technet subscriber or just a public posting, I've had some issues in the
past getting
a response.
Thanks for your time, Craig
