menu and table of contents

I dont know a lot about frontpage , and I dont have the
latest copy.
I want to ask the menus or table of contents you see on
the left hand side, what is the technical term for this.

Also I see a lot of webpage without frames and having the
same 'options' on each page on left hand column like this
http://www.scottishgypsies.co.uk/

How do you create this without the familiar frames I
am used to. Is it just dividing the page into 3 columns
or something...can recent Frontpage do this well? It
doesnt look like frames are used at all.

Hi,

Sorry for dumb question but with table, assuming that I simply have two
columns, left clumn is for navigation and right column is for contents and
if we click one link inside the left navigation column, how can we let the
corresponding contents html file only be displayed on the right cell rather
than on the whole browser screen? Say my contents html file only have a
word "test", everytime I click the link on navigation cell, the "test" will
be loaded in a full page rather than stay into that right cell of my table:(

I know this is very basic stuff but I have been doing some test and
research, including go to bookstore to check some frontpage books but I
still can't figure it out. I thought "shared border" is the technique to use
but now I think table and "shared border" are two different ways to make
this work if frame is not involved here.

Thanks for your patience and time!

That's not the way html tables work
Only using Frames or IFrames or DHTML
- not recommended for the inexperienced
