menu drop down method

In Excel and Word the menus do not appear quickly as a
block but one line at a time. eg Click File and slowly
New
Open
Close
etc
appear one at a time, taking considerable time.

Where can I turn of this annoying habit? - the system is
new, resources are plently, Office has been uninstalled
and reinstalled and the same thing happens.

From within Excel, goto menu Tools > Customize, select tab
Options and modify the content of the drop-down box
labelled Menu Animations at the bottom.
